Independent Living

Independent living at El Castillo affords residents solitude when they need it and socialization when they want it.

Of course our downtown location means residents also have ready access to Santa Fe’s multitude of social, cultural and recreational activities which are just a short walk from our residents’ front doors. Click here for more about our Apartment Homes.

While residents love their homes, many of them are chided by their children or friends because they are “never” home. That’s because life at El Castillo is interesting, active and rewarding. Click here for the Activities page.

One meal per day is included in residents’ monthly fees, and residents may choose to meet their friends in our bright, comfortable dining room or take their meal from our Deli window back to their apartment. Outdoor patio dining is also available when weather permits.

Lunch and dinner meals always include a salad bar brimming with fresh fruit and vegetables and the selection of meats, breads and desserts changes daily. Residents complete Dining Services surveys to give their opinions and feedback and changes are made accordingly.

There may be tax advantages for El Castillo residents as several IRS rulings have established that a portion of a LifeCare community monthly service fees are deductible as prepaid medical expense. These health care tax deductions are only available through LifeCare communities such as El Castillo. As always, you should discuss your individual tax situation with your personal tax advisor. In addition, as a LifeCare resident, you do not pay State of New Mexico gross receipts tax on El Castillo services.

We are serious when we say: Our mission is to enrich the lives of older adults through community living. We are committed to the lifelong care, comfort and satisfaction of our residents.
